An explosion of flowers: early spring!
When the first flowers bloom and the abundant snow starts melting under the sun, the rest of Switzerland is still wrapped up in a deep winter slumber.
Locarno: the city of flowers! For many years, the town on the lake welcomed spring with a folklore celebration that included music, dancing, cheerleading, and folklore groups parading along the lakefront. It is only in the past twenty years that this wonderful celebration has developed into the famous “Festival of Camellias”, the flower symbol of Locarno. Every year between 7,000 and 10,000 people attend the festival and visit the other blooming parks in the region. Among them: the Brissago Islands, the botanical garden of Gambarogno with its enormous collection of magnolias (more than 400) and the Monte Verità Park.
