Centovalli, the valley of a hundred valleys. It is mysterious and exciting at the same time. Shorter and longer ascents lead into the many side valleys.

The 50 kilometres tour to the medieval village of Bordei starts in Locarno. Follow the river Maggia, then the Melezza to Tegna, where you turn left into the Terre di Pedemonte. The climate here is very southern and the vegetation exotic. In Intragna you enter the Centovalli. The area is wilder and bears witness to the former poverty. The road climbs moderately up the valley to the Lago di Palagnedra reservoir. After turning onto the road to Palagnedra and Bordei, the climb begins. Steep up the hairpin bends to the characteristic village of Palagnedra, followed by a descent and another climb to Bordei. In Bordei you will find traditional stone houses made from a mix of different stones and colours, making it very lively. Here, surrounded by lush nature, there is an osteria to relax with a cool drink or something tasty from the kitchen.

Author’s recommendation
If you want to extend the tour or are looking for ideas for further tours, you can also tackle the climbs from Camedo to Moneto or Lionza. As the road is very busy at rush hour, we advise you to avoid it.
