Casa Anatta Museum

Ascona

The Casa Anatta Museum is home to the permanent exhibition “MONTE VERITÀ. Le mammelle della verità”, curated by Harald Szeemann in 1978. The exhibition includes a wealth of materials linked to the history of Monte Verità and has been reorganised with the utmost respect for the original intentions of the curator.

On the ground floor, the new exhibition "Le verità di una montagna" by Andreas Schwab provides both a complement and an introduction to the permanent exhibition, helping explore it in more detail. Its modern style also contrasts cleverly with Szeemann’s installation.

The Casa Anatta building itself is an artwork of important historical value, which, thanks to significant restoration work (carried out between 2009 and 2017, the year the museum was reopened) can now be appreciated to its full extent.

Casa Anatta was the home of the founders of the naturist colony built in 1902. After being abandoned by the vegetarians in 1920 and Baron von der Heydt in 1944, it was used as an “annex” by the Albergo Monte Verità until 1978. It has been home to the Monte Verità history museum since 1981 and is part of the Monte Verità museum complex.
