The white-red circular trail ascends toward Arnau. Among the mighty chestnut trees, you can occasionally glimpse the Vallemaggia with its surrounding mountains. Once arrived, the mountain huts can be recognized from afar, nestled between barren rocky walls and lush pastures.
The complex on the Alpe di Spluga consists of 11 farmsteads, three of which serve as refuges. The self-sufficient refuge (open from May to October) is equipped with toilets with showers, dormitory, kitchen, lounge, and a terrace with a 360° panoramic view. It is also possible to purchase drinks on site.
And when you go up, you have to come down again – in this case, towards Cortone. A long but pleasant descent to Arnau and then back to Giumaglio.
