The Onsernonetal is the wildest of the valleys by Lake Maggiore. The steep valley seems like something out of a fairy tale: so idyllic, quiet and simply special. For this reason, the valley has long attracted artists. Max Frisch, the Zurich writer and architect, also found his new home in the Onsernonetal – in Berzona, far away from the city's hustle and bustle. It was there that the story “Man in the Holocene” was written. The roughly 6.6 km long themed trail starts and ends in Loco and follows parts of the walk of the story's protagonist, Mr. Geiser. Many passages of the story were inspired by these magical places. The first approx. 500 m lead along the road before turning onto the beautifully designed hiking trail past Berzona towards Sella.
To visit: The Onsernonese Museum and the mill in Loco as well as the “Pagliarte” workshop in Berzona, where straw handicrafts are made.
