Judith Wyder: trail running ambassador

Judith Wyder is currently one of the best mountain runners in Switzerland and is among the world elite over shorter ultra-distances. She became well-known in Switzerland primarily through her successful career in orienteering. Since 2019, she has also been competing in mountain running – with great success: that same year, she won the overall title in the Golden Trail World Series. In both 2023 and 2024, she finished in second place. In 2023, she also claimed silver at the European Championships in the ‘Up and Down’ race and at the World Championships in the ‘Short Trail’. At the OCC race of the UTMB World Finals, she once again secured second place.

Locarno holds a special significance for her – not only because of its excellent training conditions, but also because she became European orienteering champion there in 2018.

Judith Wyder: trail running ambassador
  • Passionate trainer

  • Together with her husband, Judith has been running a coaching and trail running company (indurance GmbH) for many years, which, among other things, organizes camps for running enthusiasts in Locarno.

The Bernese Judith Wyder is one of Switzerland's outstanding endurance athletes. Throughout her career, she has celebrated numerous successes: as an orienteer, she became a five-time world champion and six-time European champion – an achievement that catapulted her to the very top of this sport internationally.

Since 2019, Judith has dedicated herself with the same passion to mountain and trail running. In this discipline too, she demonstrates her exceptional talent: at the 2023 World Championships, she secured an impressive second place in both the individual and team rankings in the ‘Short Trail’. Today, she competes at an international level in races over distances between marathon and 60 kilometres – impressing with her remarkable combination of athleticism, strategy, and mental strength.

Judith Wyder is not only a top athlete but also an inspiring personality. She stands for determination, a deep connection to nature, and a healthy lifestyle – values that perfectly reflect the spirit of the region she proudly represents as its ambassador.

  • RunThrough Trails Ascona-Locarno

  • This year, the RunThrough Trails will take place in Ascona-Locarno for the first time. From 31 October to 1 November 2025, trail running enthusiasts will compete over various distances – and Judith will be among them.

Judith Wyder discovered running through her family. In the past, the whole family would take part in orienteering competitions or go hiking through the Swiss mountains with a map in hand. One of her favourite destinations is Ascona-Locarno. Even as a child, she often trained in the region. With its mild climate, technical trails and uniquely Mediterranean landscape, unlike anywhere else in Switzerland, it offers ideal conditions for varied and enjoyable training. Judith can often be found running the trails around Lake Maggiore, especially during the transitional seasons. But it’s not just the sport that draws her here: she frequently spends time in the region with her husband and children, enjoying nature and discovering new activities together.

Locarno also holds special significance for Judith Wyder in sports: in 2018, she won the European Championship title in orienteering here, and in 2024, the final of the Golden Trail World Series was held in Locarno. Two defining moments that connect the trail running ambassador even more closely with the region and will probably remain in her best memories forever.
