The Fondazione Ghisla Art Collection was established in April 2014 with the clear vision to make an artistic collection of international significance accessible to the public, to share it with everyone who appreciates the timeless value of art. The futuristic building housing the collection was designed by Locarno architects Moro & Moro and is located in the town centre just a short walk from the harbour.
The 2023 season opens with a new selection of works from the Ghisla collection on the first two floor of the museum. Here visitors can embark on a journey through works by the major exponents of modern and contemporary art of the last 80 years. Basquiat, Picasso, Miró, Magritte, Lichtenstein, Warhol, Haring, Rosenquist, Botero, Bonalumi, Tàpies and Dubuffet are just some of the artists whose works are on display.
The second floor, from 9 September, hosts the temporary exhibition devoted to the works of Ireneo Nicora. The exhibition consists of sequences that have come into being over a time span of six years (2018-2023) in differents situations and places and which blend and alter to underline the continuity of the thought that unites them. Interrogating himself on the ephemeral nature of memory, the artist faces the question of our individual, ever-uncertain self identification, since losing memory means losing significant pieces of our personal history and thus of our identity.
Included in the entrance fee is a handy audio guide describing the exhibitions in Italian, German, French and English.
