The Remo Rossi Foundation's mission is to preserve and promote the work of Locarno-born sculptor Remo Rossi (1909-1982). Its headquarters are located in the artist's home, where exhibitions related to Rossi and the artistic and cultural milieu in which he worked are held. His extensive art library and archive documentation are also accessible. The 2017 exhibition "On the Road. Remo Rossi. Notes of a Sculptor" marked the inauguration of the Remo Rossi Foundation's headquarters in Locarno, located at Via F. Rusca 8, in the artist's home, which underwent careful restoration between 2012 and 2013.
The exhibition " Il Toro. L'Esprit de Locarno, a 100 anni dal Patto", organized by the Fondazione Remo Rossi in Locarno, is part of the celebrations marking the centenary of the Peace Conference held in Locarno in October 1925.
On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the peace agreements, in 1975, the Locarno-born sculptor donated to his city a work that had nothing to do with traditional commemorative or representative works: the "Bull." He wanted to emphasize this important historical event with a symbol that embodied the strength and determination that led Locarno to consolidate an international climate of collaboration and trust—the so-called "Esprit de Locarno"—and to promote values of great importance during the difficult postwar period. The exhibition features nine works by the Locarno-born sculptor and two works on paper by the Spanish artist Joaquin Vaquero Turcios (1933-2010), a friend of Remo Rossi, known for his numerous works related to the theme of bullfighting. The exhibition also features a graphic reworking of Rossi's "Bull" by Giona Dellagana.
Finally, several archival documents and images are on display, demonstrating the importance of this particular iconographic subject, the public role of the Locarno-born artist, and his connections with artists and personalities of the time.
