Exploring the Gambarogno

On the eastern shore of Lake Maggiore

The eastern shore of Lake Maggiore has a typically Mediterranean charm that makes you feel immediately on holiday. Colourful houses overlooking the lake, incredibly vibrant lidos and beaches, abundant flowers and plenty of sunshine. A beautiful, peaceful place that houses botanical gems and protected areas such as the Gambarogno Botanical Garden and the Bolle di Magadino.

Exploring the Gambarogno

A day in the Gambarogno: what to see

A trip to the Gambarogno has to start at the pier in Locarno. Destination: Magadino, home to the protected cantonal nature reserve, the Bolle di Magadino. Along the route you will find panels full of information and fun facts about the plants and animals that have made the Bolle their home. Enjoy trying to spot the animals from the observation points. Why not follow that with a game of mini golf and a snack in one of the area’s restaurants?  By then you’ll be ready to take the boat back to Locarno, caressed by the gentle breeze that blows across the lake.
