Ticino 365

Whether it’s a walk between the lake and the valleys, a visit to museums or galleries, or a moment of relaxation with a view – Ascona-Locarno welcomes you all year round with sunshine, culture and Mediterranean energy, even after summer, during the quieter months.

Ticino 365 is a project launched by Ticino Turismo and its partner regions to make the canton a vibrant and attractive year-round destination. Its aim is to enhance the appeal of autumn and winter, support businesses and service providers that remain open, and offer high-quality experiences even during the quieter months.

  • Hotels open all year round

  • In Ascona-Locarno, hospitality never takes a holiday: numerous hotels and partner establishments remain open all year, offering comfort, wellbeing and the warm atmosphere of Ticino – even outside the high season. And after a day full of activities, the local gastronomy invites you to take a delicious break: from brunches with lake views to winter specialities in restaurants, where the flavours of the region reflect the authentic soul of Ticino.

As the pace slows and the landscape settles, the region offers authentic experiences between lake and mountains. Take the cable car up to Cardada Cimetta and enjoy the view over Lake Maggiore. Discover the charm of Bosco Gurin – the highest village in Ticino – or explore snowy trails on snowshoes. Adventurers will find hiking, climbing and golf opportunities, while those seeking relaxation can enjoy wellness experiences or a peaceful boat trip to Magadino, with a visit to the Bolle di Magadino nature reserve.

For families and curious minds, Pardy’s treasure hunt is a fun way to explore the region all year round – through puzzles, discoveries and stunning views.

Another way to experience Ascona and Locarno in an original way is the Sato Code – a digital puzzle adventure that turns the city into a truly interactive outdoor game.

In winter, the city sparkles with Winterland Locarno in festive splendour – with lights, music and a joyful atmosphere. Those seeking tranquillity will find an ideal retreat at the Casa del Tè on Monte Verità, where serenity and harmony can be rediscovered. Tea ceremonies are held twice a month.

  • A winter… made for fondue!

  • Whether along the lakeside Sentiero delle Rive or in a chalet on Ascona’s promenade, on the local mountain Cardada Cimetta or even on a boat – cheese fondue can be enjoyed in many ways across the Lake Maggiore region. A classic of Swiss tradition, here it becomes an authentic, tasty and scenic winter experience.

In the Ascona-Locarno region, several museums remain open all year round, some with reduced opening hours during the winter months. Others close only briefly, usually between January and April, or can be visited by request. Some institutions extend their opening season into autumn, offering visits beyond the main tourist period. For updates or changes, we recommend also consulting the general museums page.

Cinemas and theatres in the region offer a varied programme of performances, concerts and entertainment throughout the year, enriching Ascona-Locarno’s cultural scene during the cooler season. For current information on screenings and opening hours, please refer to the general page.
